Use a Wireless USB 802.11g Belkin USB Dongle with OS X : Solved
Sometimes trial and error is all it takes.
After seeing this post on macosxhints about using a DLink DWL-G122 USB Wifi Network Adapter with OS X using Ralink drivers to get it to work, I decided to try it instead of buying a $98 Apple Airport card for my iMac G5. I bought one for cheap on Tiger Direct, and received a revision A chipset version in the mail, only to find out that only the revision B chipsets use the ralink technology. That dongle is still sitting around my house, lonely and unused. I wrote about my frustration in a comment here.
Then I heard about some users having luck with newer versions of the Belkin Wireless G USB Network adapter. Having not learned my lesson, I put the Belkin F5D7050 on my amazon wishlist, and low and behold my family bought one for me! It says “Ver. 2011″ on the box.
Initial trials with the Belkin OS X drivers did not work for me. But thanks to this blog post, I tried the Ralink drivers for 11g-RT2500 10.4.X, and it worked!
Update Drivers were moved here, linked from this page.
Actually these are the same drivers that work on the revision B chipset.
The driver application came up right away when I plugged in the adapter, but the internet did not work. In network settings, it detected a new ethernet port, and setting DHCP and renewing DHCP lease and hitting Apply Now made everything start working. Hurray!
So if you have a Revision B D-link DWL-G122 or a Belkin F5D7050 version 2011, 2000, 2001, 3000, or 3000uk, you can use the Ralink drivers with it and OS X!

Listen I’m normally just a passive observer with all of these blogs but I have found this really helpful thanks.
However I seem to be at a dead end. My son has a G4 Mac running OSX 10.3.3 am not interested in paying extortionist prices for a secondhand airport card. However it may have been the cheapest way to deal with it in the long run.
I have tried Belkin Wireless G desktop card F5D7000 ver3000Uk no joy. Driven demented with Belkin customer support on the far side of the world. Threw my hat at it and bought an airport extreme card. However the aerial from the mother board on a G4 does not fit into the extreme card (used some sellotape) and I got intermittent connection to the internet. Son was pissed off with his downloads dropping out.
So found a few suggestions on mac osx hints which led me to this. Restored my faith in humanity! Bought the F5D7050 version 3000uk (why do they not put the names on the boxes?) Downloaded belkins driver from http://web.belkin.com/support/downlo…0&lang=1&mode=
and sorry it doesn’t work.
FOund your blog and went to the Ralink site http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm took the USB driver for Mac OS and it worked. Started up the USB wireless utility and low and behold found my network. Linked to it no problem. Set a new profile. Except the internet would not work! Went into system profiles and network found the ethernet adaptor en3 (can’t change the name) I asked it to renew the DHCP lease and apply. WOw that worked too. But still won’t connect to the internet.
I feel so close and yet so far away. What am I doing wrong? can you help please. WOuld really appreciate it.
Thanks dob.irl
Do you have configure IPv4 set to Using DHCP? When you
hit renew lease do you get assigned an IP address? What is it? Under Network Status what does it say? It does sound like you’re close! You can access the wireless internet with other machines, right?

You probably have set up the Belkin dongle wireless internet connection successfully, but now you need to enter the password/security settings from your wireless hub so that the hub system lets you surf the web. Go to the documentation that came with your hub that should have the settings and passwords.
I have tried it for my Belkin dongle and it worked!
good luck!
